TUDOR POEMS:
An On-line Anthology

NEW POEMS WILL BE ADDED TO THIS SITE
FROM TIME TO TIME

The purpose of this site is to make available modern-spelling editions of Tudor poems that are not usually anthologized. The poems were written between 1485 and 1603, most of them in the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Each poem page includes a modernized text, a brief introduction, and footnotes.

This site has been done in connection with an English course (ENG 432) at Miami University of Ohio, the poems having been edited primarily by junior and senior undergraduate university students. Although the keeper of this site has in most cases done additional editing, the basic work was done by the student editors named at the beginning of each poem.

A problem still not satisfactorily solved has been the alignment of line numbers on the righthand side of the texts. It has been thought better to provide them than not, however. Anyone downloading the poems for printing out may easily realign the numbers with word-processing software if they seem too inelegant.

To locate a particular poem just select any of these three indexes:

Author Index
Title Index
Index of First Lines
