Meet Joanie Clougherty

Check out my resume and get to know a little bit more about me!

Joanie Clougherty (me).

My name is Joanie Clougherty and I am a 21-year-old rising senior Strategic Communication major at Miami University. This summer I look forward to working as the Branding Communications Intern at Alliance Data in Columbus, OH. In the fall, I will return to Miami University to finish my B.A. and to continue serving as a Resident Assistant in Flower Hall.

Growing up with one older brother, I have always been a bit of a tomboy. I love sports; I played field hockey, lacrosse, and ice hockey in high school, and was the baseball team manager. For a year in college I played outside-wing on the women's club rugby team, but realized it wasn't the right fit for me. I love to volunteer, go camping, and love trying new things-- I went skydiving for the first time this year!

Me with my friends Alan, Ben, Patty, and Jeremy, after we went skydiving.

That being said, I still love expressing my more feminine side; my favorite color is pink, and I love to get dressed up and go dancing. I have always been a people-person, and enjoy the company of friends and family as well as meeting new people.

Me with my dad and mom.

I grew up in Shaker Heights, OH with my older brother, Danny (age 23), and my mom and dad. I graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 2009 and attended Miami University as an exercise science major. I realized I hadn't picked the right major, and took a year off from school to figure out what I wanted to do and to work to help pay for the rest of my education. I spend the following year working as a sales associate at Nordstrom in Beachwood, OH, and was the Assistant Coach for the JV field hockey team at my Alma Mater.

After saving up, I retuned back to Miami University in the Spring of 2011. While the year off postponed my graduation, I was able to figure out a lot about myself and decided to change my major to Strategic Communication. Since then, I have been active in my sorority (Alpha Xi Delta) and PRSSA, as well as becoming a Resident Assistant in a second year dorm. I have made amazing friends at Miami and love my major now. I am excited to pursuing a career in communications or marketing and am open to the many possibilities instore for me.
