I am the Walter E. Havighurst Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and the Director of the University’s Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies. I received my Ph.D. from the London School of Economics in 1975 and taught at a number of British and American Universities before coming to Miami with my husband Adeed in 2000. Since coming to Miami, in addition to establishing the Havighurst Center, I have continued to do research and teaching in the areas of post-communist transitions and Russian politics.

In Oxford, I have enjoyed being a part of the rich local community of a college town, and have been particularly happy that both of our children, Nadia and Emile, have elected to attend Miami University. It has been terrific to explore this new town with them, and to have them close,  to see them grow in such wonderful ways.

One of the projects I’ve most enjoyed has been the Silk Road Project, which has involved developing new courses that extend the reach of Middle East, East Asian, and Eurasian studies into Central Asia. As part of that curricular development, fifteen Miami faculty went on an extended trip from western China through Central Asia to Turkey. You can see the website for that trip, and other Silk Road related activities at http://montgomery.cas.muohio.edu/silkroad
