History

The Great Plains Operator Theory Symposium has been held annually since 1981 with continuous NSF support since 1983. It was initially given the name "The Great Plains Operator Theory Seminar", and in 1989 it was renamed "The Great Plains Operator Theory Symposium". Over the years it has grown into the largest annual conference in the field of operator algebras and operator theory.
